Chapter 5 · Lesson 4 of 5

Burn Out

You draw a card at the start of each turn, and some cards make you draw more. Your trash is the pile your used spells and dead units go to. If you must draw and your Main Deck (the deck you draw from) is empty, you Burn Out:

Burning Out doesn't lose the game by itself, but every one is a free point for your opponent, and it has no catch: at 7 it's their 8th. If your new deck is empty too, you Burn Out again. Late in a long game, count your deck before you draw.

Quick check

You must draw and your deck is empty. Your opponent is on 7 and you're on 3. What happens?

Words from this lesson

Burn Out
Drawing from an empty deck: you shuffle your trash in as a new deck, your opponent gains a point, then you draw.

From the Core Rules (2026-10-09): 432 — Burn Out · 433 — Burning Out again · 323.1 — Winning

Don't Draw

  1. You're on 7 and so is Garen. Your Main Deck is empty: you drew your last card this turn. You Held A this turn, so taking B wins. Careful: Stellacorn Herder draws a card whenever it moves, and drawing from an empty deck is a Burn Out that gives Garen a point.
