Extra Resources
Some cards give you more to spend, or make cards cheaper. Some also ask for an additional cost on top of the normal one.
- Adds: Lux, Crownguard says "[Exhaust]: add 2 Energy, but only for spells." Exhaust her and the 2 Energy goes straight into your Rune Pool. Cards with [Add] put resources in your pool. Lux also has [Reaction]; ignore it for now.
- Cheaper: Battering Ram costs 1 less for each card you've already played this turn (never below 1). The more cards you have already played, the cheaper it gets.
- Astral Heron: when you play your first card each turn, if Heron is at a battlefield, your next card costs 2 Energy and 2 Power less. The discount arrives after your first card finishes and applies to the next card you play. Two Herons stack on the same card.
- Units can go straight to a battlefield you control, and defend there. Additional costs are paid on top. Life from Stone: exhaust a friendly unit to play it. Zed, From the Shadows: you may discard 1 card as an additional cost to get a free Shadow Clone.
- Lux, Crownguard: adds 2 Energy for spells.

- Battering Ram: costs 1 less for each card you've played this turn.

- Astral Heron: your next card costs 2 Energy and 2 Power less.

- Life from Stone: exhaust a friendly unit as an additional cost.

Battering Ram costs 5. You have already played two cards this turn. What does it cost?
Lux adds 2 Energy for spells only. Can it help pay for Zed (a unit)?
Zed's discard is an optional additional cost. What happens if you don't discard?
Astral Heron's discount applies to the card you play after your first. You hold a 1-Energy Ray and the 6-Energy Firestorm. Which order uses the discount best?
Make your guess, then play the drill to find out.
Hextech Ray and Falling Comet carry the keyword [Action], which a later lesson explains.
