Some of the text on a card (its abilities) starts with When or At. You don't use them: they trigger by themselves when that thing happens, and go on the Chain like a spell.
"When you play me": as the card arrives.
"When I attack / defend": as a fight starts, before any damage. "When I conquer": right after the Conquer.
"At the start of your turn": at the start of your turn, before your Holds score.
Deathknell[Deathknell]: "When I die".
Legion[Legion]: a bonus that works only if you've already played another card this turn.
If a trigger needs a target, you choose it the moment it triggers, before anyone does anything else. Then both players can answer it on the Chain. If two of yours trigger at once, you choose their order.
